New Broadband Internet Survey of Loudoun County Establishes Revised Baseline Dataset for Broadband Expansion Opportunities

Loudoun Broadband Alliance to Collect Demographic Information in Independent Online Survey Process

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA, FEBRUARY 4, 2021 – Loudoun Broadband Alliance (LBA), a volunteer-driven non-profit organization formed with a vision to promote development of accessible, reliable and affordable broadband Internet access for the underserved in Loudoun County, encourages all Loudoun County residents and businesses to complete a short survey about their current Internet access. The survey is live today at www.lbasurvey.org and links will be widely available on social media.

“We are very excited that LBA has partnered with Hunt Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors, an engineering firm with deep experience developing broadband in rural
communities, to conduct this independent broadband survey,” said co-founder Kevin Noll. “This will be the most recent demographic data available for Loudoun County and
LBA hopes it will be a foundation for facilitating real progress for broadband development.”

Along with providing demographic data, the questions are intended to understand the needs and desires of residents and businesses regarding existing and future Internet
services. A portion of the survey includes a speed test that will collect residential carrier information, upload/download speeds, and latency among other metadata. The results of the community-wide survey will enable LBA to generate updated mapping that can highlight coverage opportunities for broadband expansion to underserved and unserved areas in Loudoun. The results may be used to assist LBA’s research toward state and federal grant and loan funding and other opportunities that support and accelerate broadband Internet development in the county.
